When you make an eligible transaction, your American Airlines AAdvantage® miles will be classed as "Pending" typically for 15 days. This is to account for any refunds that may occur in that time and ensures that the correct amount of American Airlines AAdvantage® miles will be applied.
If you receive a refund after this period, we will remove the equivalent American Airlines AAdvantage® miles earned from that transaction from your balance.
If the value of the removed American Airlines AAdvantage® miles exceeds your current balance, your balance will go into a negative position and any future earned American Airlines AAdvantage® miles will work towards bringing your balance into a positive position.
